TV Schematic

How do I replace the flyback on a RCA D52W14 rear projection TV?

I have electrical and soldering knowledge, plus I already have the part. I just can't find any schematics online. I understand that there are dangerous amounts of electricity that go through a television set, that is why I plan on unplugging it before I begin to work on it. I don't need step by step instructions, but a general concept would be nice. Thank you for you time.

  1. You don't need the schematic for this job ! I know you can solder but have you also got a desoldering pump or solder wick to remove the old transformer ?. With the set unplugged from the mains supply there is nothing to fear from voltages , if the set has been off for a few hours then all the residual voltage will have leaked away, If there was any real danger then their would always been a severe shortage of TV apprentices plus constant notices in the obituary columns !! If you want to be super safe from getting a zap ( only causes you to curse and say ouch ) see where the lead goes up to the CRT bowl ? hold a long insulated screw driver and slip the blade up inside the eht connector and taking another screwdriver short the first screw driver to the bowl of the CRT ( it is coated in graphite ) if there is any volts there then you will see and hear a spark when you discharge it ! . Just be carefull when desoldering or soldering the focus lead to the CRT base board as it is easy to melt the plastic holder !! That's about it ! I am sure that you will have success !! Some people who may also answer may tell you about volts that kill !! Believe me ! I have replaced hundreds ( at least ) over the last 40 to 50 years and I am still alive ! I do have curly hair but that's genetic not from electrocution !! If you have any other point to raise then just do edit or e-mail me ! Cheers Pete
