TV repair?
Is it cheaper to have a tv that's 4 years old fixed or buy a new one? I want a new one, the rest of the family thinks it's not old enough to throw out.

- Keep it til it dies, mine was new in 91 and it still works fine.
- is it hdtv? if the tv is hd, then maybe keep it, but the prices keep dropping and the tvs just keep geting better and better. so my suggestion is to get a new one. also a good rule of thumb is if the repairs cost more than 20% of the cost of the tv, then it's worth it to get a new one, if not and the tv is already hdtv and has a good picture, then keep it. but my mentality is to get a new one, b/c the tv's now are soooo much better than the ones 4 years ago. I just replaced my HDTV from 5 years ago, with the new SONY 60" SXRD and i don't regret it at all. the picture even though they are both HDTV is 10 times better on the new SONY. Also to help you lighten the load on your wallet, stores like Ken Cranes take trade-ins, so you might want to consider that as well. hope this helps.
- Accurately describe the symptoms to one or two service technicians to get quotations for its repair and make your decision based upon those compared to the price of the receiver you would like to buy.
